one thing about drops that you haven't run across yet at lvl 10.
sometime around 12 in missions I started getting items that had odd names and abilities. If you buy an expert salvage kit then you can start salvaging these items for runes and components for weapons. You can then add those components and runes to your weapons and armor for bonuses and whatnot...pretty cool imo.
plus about 75% of the mission content in the same is geared for lvl 20 characters, and expansions will be geared towards lvl 20 characters...

I was actually wondering the same thing about levels.
I dont want to get bored!
the main thing about doing quests is the XP, so once i dont need anymore XP and all the baddies are the same level what will my mind think about that?.. will I lose motivation?
I know there is plenty plenty plenty more to do, explore skills, regions character classes.. but that doesnt seem to work for me, when I completed NWN I lost interest immediatly, even tho I know there was alot more to do.
OH and er..
Whats that about combining runes together with armour?? more explanation and examples please

Research before you post
OK guys, I am level 20 now, and not every character looks the same for one, you have a lot of variety in the look of your character, dyes, make the armor look different, etc.
There are endless possibilities of characters, 36 possible class mixtures as well as basically subclasses of each profession, e.g. Ranger can be bow skills, beast mastery, traps (wilderness survival), Elementalist can be air, fire, cold, etc.
RARE items do exist, they are hard to find and later in the game, They are yellow/gold in color, here is how the drop system works. Blue means it could be good, generally mid-range damage, with maybe a decent mod. Purple means good mods mid-range damage but usually are salvaged into runes or bowstrings and halts, etc. Now Yellow, yellow is max-damage, random mods, usually 2-3 of them. I got lucky enough to get an incredible bow for my ranger, I have also stumbled across an offhand item for a caster, i think it was a monk, its mods were energy +13 health +40.
The main point of most quests is experience, you are correct there, but I would say my main point of doing sub-quests is for the skills, I have unlocked roughly 70 skills at least and now can do anything with my character, also with skills, Signet of capture is awesome, for those of you who don't know what it is, it's a normal signet but you use it against a BOSS mob only and it steals a skill from him and gives it to you for good, replaces your signet of capture, this is how you get the expert skills.
So before you all jump to conclusions and think the game will get boring, try playing it, The story in PvE gets very indulging and the later zones are incredibly dangerous.
The only thing correct about your post is getting to 20 is fairly simple, I would say it take roughly 60 hours or so to get there. If you get bored, make a new character, change yours around, or try out PvP which is incredibly fun all in itself. But just to forewarn you, a lot of the fun points in the game come AFTER 20, so please quit jumping to conclusions unless you are already there and bored.
Remember the world map is huge, even though you might run to the end of the story with Primary quests, you skipped a TON of zones that have other quests and possibly something fun and off the wall. So exploring in itself is just as fun as anything else in my opinion, I love discovering something only I and a few other people have been to...

Levels are just numbers. The majority of this game's content is available once you hit level 20.

I think the comments about items is a fair point...they do need to add a lot more vaied items into the game. I don't mean items as in anything powerful...just items as rewards for quests that are unique, grant special emotes to the carrier, makes him look different from everyone else. Wings in a lot of asian RPGs is a prime example of this, they're usually incredibly hard to get, offer slight bonuses in movement and armor, but they look absolutely awesome and its a symbol of their power. The new ghostly items you get from WaW might be worth checking out, but I think at the end its still simply a weapon and not really unique enough for some people.
The issue here isn't about rarity...its about variation. If you can't vary the items using damage and effect variables as it'll be unbalancing, then at least vary the items and effects visually.

I agree with everthing else posted here, but I just want to say that guild wars is not about getting to high levels by playing for days. It's about pvp and skill.

Yeah, they really though about the end game. From what I understand lvl 20 is where the fun starts.
I've notice a lot of people conserened about leveling. This must be left over from Wow, E2, and othe MMOs where grind is the point of the game. This game is't the same. If your main goal is leveling then why play GW?

Yea, I realise this but experience tells me that once I get so far in a game I get bored.. even though I know there is tons more stuff to try out.... but I do agree, there is alot indeed

Thanks for this explanation, its very reasuring!.. I suspected the variance would come from something else other than levels, so this answers my question really.

I havnt actually come to the conclusion yet personally, but I am just worried that I may come to this conclusion.
I think the original poster of the thread is thinking the same as me.. thinking ahead.. at the momen we are enjoying it tremendously, but deep down we are worried that it will be short lived because of our lack of understanding.
and its only a need to understand and be reassured I think noone has come to any conclusions yet its too early for that, even for the most scepticle. (spelling?)

From what I heard the worlds of war pvp competition will unlock specific areas if your territory is holding it. And if you go through there and fight your way through the instance there is a crafter that will make you a unique looking lvl 20 armour set. Wich should differenciate you from the people who bought their set in the normal world.
Guildwars is about character balance and tactics. And because of this they can't have equipment with huge stats on them, since it would ruin the balance. Of course there will be better items than your normal junk, but they problably won't provide a large winning chance in pvp.

Agreed Rhaz, Uber armor won't exist due to the incredible balance of classes and skills, you can make uber armor persay, by using Major runes in your base attributes, this is your only way to become somewhat more powerful than your basic PvP people.

don't judge the game item wise by the first 10-12 lvls either...as you move on in missions you'll get better stuff with more varience...
it has often been said that 1-20 is the tutorial for the game...kinda is really when you think about it

this game has way too many items for people to be complaining. Please, just stop it if you never even seen more than 10% of the game.

The "baddies" go beyond lv 20. Even if ur level 20, taking down a level29 monster by yourself is going to be a challenge.
